The origin
It started with a standard.
In 2022, Micah Shoemaker brought the first Magic City Games to the track at Samford University.
After more than a decade coaching athletes and building fitness communities—including working with competitors at the highest levels of the sport through his former company, Brute Strength—Micah believed athletes deserved an event that took their effort just as seriously.
The goal wasn't another competition. It was to build the one athletes deserved: safety without compromise, equal respect, details handled, promises kept.

Micah Shoemaker
Founder & CEOMicah founded MCG in 2022 after more than a decade coaching, building fitness communities across the East Coast, and working with competitors at the highest levels of the sport through his former company, Brute Strength.
Luan Nguyen
Chief Operating OfficerLuan joined in 2023 for Year Two. With more than two decades in fitness, he helped grow MCG beyond the competition floor and was instrumental in developing its relationship with the City of Birmingham.
Kate Patterson
Chief of StaffKate started as a volunteer in 2022 and has since held nearly every position inside MCG. The team's true Swiss Army knife, she became an owner in 2025 and remains central to its future.
