FAQ
Are the Magic City Games and the CrossFit Semifinal the same event?
The CrossFit Semifinal (May 1–3, 2026) is an official stage of the CrossFit Games season — where Masters athletes compete for a chance to qualify for the 2026 Age Group CrossFit Games.
The Magic City Games (July 18–19, 2026) is our independently produced Championship event that’s open to athletes who qualify through the Magic City Online Qualifier. Think of the Semifinal as part of CrossFit’s global season, and the Magic City Games as Birmingham’s premier fitness championship.
How are the events connected?
Both events are produced by the Magic Events team, built on the same belief that magic is giving an unreasonable amount of care, time, and effort so others feel seen, valued, and celebrated. From the CrossFit Semifinal to the Magic City Games, each event carries that same purpose — world-class production rooted in genuine community. Together, they showcase Birmingham as the home of fitness that feels personal.
Which event should I register for?
If you’re competing in the CrossFit Games season, registration happens through Games.CrossFit.com for the CrossFit Open — the first step toward qualifying for the CrossFit Games. Athletes who advance through Quarterfinals may receive an invitation to compete at the Magic City CrossFit Semifinal (May 1–3).
If you want to compete at the Magic City Games Championship in July, registration opens for the Magic City Online Qualifier on November 14. This event is open to all athletes — from RX to Novice — with divisions for both individuals and teams of 2.
Can athletes compete in both events?
Yes! Many masters athletes will compete in both. The Semifinal is CrossFit’s official qualifying stage, while the Magic City Games is a separate competition experience with its own qualifier, divisions, and championship weekend.
